At Stondon Lower, the creative curriculum is followed across the school and so subjects are taught through a theme or topic in a cross-curricular manner. This enables a wide ranging educational experience for children, which helps to engage them and stimulate curiosity by giving their learning a wider context.
Each key stage focuses on one topic per school term and so over the course of the year, national curriculum objectives for foundation subjects are taught through three topic areas. Topics are often introduced through arts based approaches and include inspiring midpoint topic days to ensure children stay engaged.
The subjects that link with our topics and so are covered by our creative curriculum include history, geography, music, art and design and technology. The core subjects, English, maths and science are also linked to our topics when appropriate.
Please find below the topics that are covered at Stondon Lower over a two year period:
|Foundation||It’s good to be me||Down on the farm||Secret garden|
|Yum Yum!||Ice and Fire||Walk in the Woods|
|Out of the Egg||Turrets and Tiaras||Monkey Puzzle|
|Walk like an Egyptian||Yabba Dabba Do||Storms and Shipwrecks|
|Out of this World||The Italian job||Hard Times|
Topic webs are also uploaded each term onto the website class pages. These give in-depth detail of how objectives are covered under that current topic.
