In 2015 - 16 Shillington Lower adopted a co-curriculum to focus on health, well-being and fitness. This enabled the school to introduce daily fitness sessions, themed enrichment days and raised profile of healthy eating and lifestyles.
As a result of the co-curriculum, daily fitness is now built into the school day with all children participating in a 15-minute session. This is in addition to their regular PE lessons.
The school holds an annual sports day in June; this involves all children in a range of activities.
The school buys into the Redborne Sports Partnership. This gives the school access to cross-school activities and competition in events such as quad kids, Krazy-catch and multi-skills. The partnership also offers Continuous Professional Development for staff.
The sports partnership also trains identified pupils in Year 4 to be sports ambassadors. These pupils lead PE and lunchtime activities. Two sports ambassadors also join the Headteacher to present sporting awards in the weekly celebration assembly.
