We are proud of our Physical Education at Stondon Lower! We believe PE promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills, and it promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, we enable the children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives. From our sporting efforts both in and out of school we always aspire to do our very best. We are always delighted to celebrate children’s individual sporting achievements in our weekly celebration assembly.
Every week, children at Stondon participate in two hours of Physical Education. One hour is delivered by a specialist coach from Premier Sports. Children’s learning is based around indoor and outdoor units of games, dance, gymnastics and athletics. In addition Specialist sports coaches are also invited into school to offer a range of learning opportunities from golf to Bikeability. Participation in PE is statutory and lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of individual pupils.
Up to date information detailing your child’s Physical Education for any given term can be found in the termly Curriculum newsletters. For more information about Physical Education at Stondon Lower , please speak to our P.E. Leader, Mrs Foxall or see any of the information below.
The school offers a wide range of lunchtime clubs open to all children, which encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. These rotate throughout the year and include rambling, dance, football and multi-skills etc. Our afterschool club runs an active night and we have recently introduced an after school dance club.
The school encourages children to explore and develop their leadership skills. Each year a group of committed year 4 children participate in the Sports Ambassadors programme and an enthusiastic group of year 3 and 4 children are trained to support the younger children in the school at lunchtime, encouraging their participation in active and enjoyable games.
Our membership of the Redbourne School Sports Partnership provides our children opportunities to participate in various out-of-school tournaments and competitions between schools. A school sports day is held during the summer term. We aim to replicate the spirit and values of the Olympic and Paralympic games ensuring children of all abilities enjoy and gain from the experience.
As a result of our continued sporting efforts, we are very proud to have been awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Bronze Mark and Bronze Redbourne KS1 School Sport Award. These awards demonstrate our commitment to sporting triumph in our school and the wider community. We are very proud of our achievements!
Each year, we collect Sainsbury’s vouchers. They make a significant difference to our sport supplies. We appreciate as many as possible!
